Lavaux UNESCO
Lavaux are amazing terraced vineyards famous worldwide ! They have drawn visitors for centuries and will fascinate you and your own guests.
For millenniums, the slopes facing lake Léman (lake Geneva) and the Alps were overgrown and uncultivated, until man transformed them into vineyards some 1000 years ago!
This land bursting with sunshine was recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in June 2007. Its majestic eye-catching harmony captures the imagination and elates the soul. In order to grow terraced vines on these steep slopes, man had to show great patience and willpower over centuries.
Come and see for yourself this exceptional and breathtaking landscape; and while you're at it, try out the delicious and very unique wines grown in small quantities by numerous family-owned wineries. This is the land of Chasselas, a delicate grape varietal that is cultivated on these steep slopes of glacier-deposits and conglomerates, and reveals the character of the soil: the “terroir” finds its full expression through the wines matured in Lavaux.
At Walkandtalk, Matthew is part of the GPL (Guide Patrimoine Lavaux) team and was one of the very first certified guide.
During the walks (short, medium or longer tours are possible, as are discovery tours using a minibus or the local public transportation network), we talk about the history, the religious background, and the wine growing techniques. But we also describe how the Alps created the landscape, how glaciers convey their minerality to the soils and thus to the wines, how wine growing has evolved through time, and much much more. This is a territory that has no equivalent on Earth!
The Lavaux walks and outings are perfect for corporate outings, family gatherings, happenings and seminar breaks. Walkandtalk leads you to the best viewpoints, but also to “secret” destinations in the vineyards, and, of course, we know where to find the best wines!
